WOW.
I have finally edited a film from the Downteam challenge 2009, http://www.vimeo.com/6059397
It’s some of the fun we had.
But it started before the comp. The fun that is…
The next generation.
Emil Sedin, 15 years old, got some fullstalls done after some instructions from me. He excecuted them perfect.
And Emil smiled big on landning. Maybe next year he will kick Dennis ass in the Downteam challenge…

The latest glider from Ozone arrived in Åre. The Swift shure look’s fine to me.
Practice day.
Well it was nothin short of action. I learnt assymetric sat and practised on my helis. Tomas from Danmark ripped 27 lines
out of his old airwave mustang(not an acroglider) during an assymetric sat and threw his reserve.
He landed safely in the warm nice lake and got picked up by rescueboat.
Comp day one.
It felt fantastic to go to takeoff after breakfast
with the acroposse, great weather, great prople and great organization. Perfect.
Two runs was done and the results came up fast. Fredrik Lindholm won the first run. He flew close to perfect. I was in place six.

Alex Hagen put on a good show the whole weekend. Both day and night…
In run two Ove Tillung pulled the rabbit out of the hat, infinite tumble. He was the number one pilot in run two. I was in place eight.

Rolf Dale is always very good. In acro and in xc comps.

In the evening there was a swoopcontest for the pilots and audience. For fun and nice prices from the sponsors.
Tobbe Hinas girlfriend packed his glider…
Comp day two.
Same fantastic weather! Run three was a good one, Jan Tore “seahorse” Solberg won the run. Thank’s to a very fine heli(85 points) i was on place six in the run, but now i was in the lead in the Swedish championships. Scary…
Run four, i fucked up. Nerves like overcooked spagetti. Lost it in the heli and the rest. Hmm. 16th place for me this run. But i was still second in the Swedish. As i missed the raft completely i did a helilanding from ten meters… Fun.
Winner of run three was Dennis Wolthers. His run was flawless! Dennis finished with a watertouch and raft landing. He is damn good.

The Danes…
Expression session on friday night was fun. Good conditions and happy pilots made for a super show. I even tried my first helico to helico, i went ok and i will practise it alot. It was realy fun!
Later we had food at Timmerstugan, made by Martin Kjellman and Co at Broken. Good food, spareribs deluxe. Beer. Goodnight.
Comp day three.
Windy, lentis all over the sky. But up we went, started walking down to a lower takeoff. We walked all the way to olympia plateau. Pål flew two flights on the way down. But no one else wanted to fly in the conditions given the day. Wave was obvious.
As my knee is as bad as it gets, walking 450 altitude meters down with glider on back is very bad. At olympia i got my Little Cloud back from a friend and i could fly the last 400 meters to the landingfield. In bumpy strong wave conditions. Felt fine with the Little Cloud, the acrogliders were on bigears and bar most of their flights… I was happy to land safe.
This is where the days flying should have ended. However it did not. A few of us realy wanted a run today.
Diner at Holiday club, i ate very little. I was in race mode. Not eat mode. Strange…
At seven we were supposed to do a run/show over Holiday Club. Winds were still wierd, and clouds was in the way of the lentis, so it was understod that the darkclouds were sucking… I was eager to get in the air. After three pilots had flown out and done their show the run was cancelled. I was dissapointed and decided to fly anyway.
Bad idea… Calm air the first minute and then dropping out of the sky, supersinky air and forrest underneath me, it was sinking soo much that i planed to land in the trees. When approaching landing it felt okey to land on the road and so i did. Killing a mtb track sign while doing a fast landing…
Enough.
Compday four, Sunday.
Micke Kjellman packing his reserve after a wet landing outside Holiday Club on saturday evening.
We went up the mountain for a last run. I was happy to get in the air after saturdays bad flying. Though i was super nervous. I was on second place with Martin less than two points ahead. And my heli did not work at all on run four…
I did not quite manage to hold it together. Heli went crap, i did one assy spiral turn to little and the assymetric sat went not so dynamic… :-(. 13th place in run five.
Last pilot out from takeoff was Grete, the Danish lady, who had decided to go crazy… She did and ended up in the lake. Okey, sort of shaken not stired…

Pål Rognöy got wet too…
After a loooong wait for the judges to do their thang the pricegivingceremoni was on. I did not know if i kept my second place or dropped back…
Arvid was M.I.A when this photo was taken.
It was a happy Fred that got to run up to second place on the podium. This weekend i was the second best acropilot from Sweden!

Proud Fred.

I would like to congratulate the new Nordic Acro Champ,
Dennis Wolthers, it is a pure pleasure to watch him fly acro. His bag of tricks is full and technic is perfect. Also he’s a friendly chap with feet on the ground. Nr 1 in 2009. Cheers!!!
Without Pernilla, Pål, Sanna and all the volounters there would not be a Downteam Challenge. Big thank’s for all the fun.
I’ll be back next year…
